Media Manager for the British Gliding Team

We are looking for a talented Media Manager to travel with the British Gliding Team to the Women’s World Gliding Championships in Zbraslavice, Czech Republic.  You will need to be present throughout the comp and for as much as possible of the practice period – for the Women’s Worlds we depart 13 May and return 5 June.  Note: this is a paid position.

The purpose of the Media Manager role is:

  • to create a buzz about the British team across UK and international gliding via engagement with social and traditional media
  • to raise the profile of the British Team and glider racing to the wider public
  • to create content which portrays an image of a professional sports team – showing the diversity within the team but fundamentally a single team – on which we can base a bid for sponsorship


  • Working with the team to storyboard material that tells a story through the comp
  • Creating original text and video content managing posts and responding to followers to inspire and engage:
    • glider pilots across the sport, not just comp pilots
    • friends and family and the public who know little about gliding
  • Updating of all social media output of the British Team throughout the day and responding to media requests
  • Handling of social media presence ensuring high levels of web traffic and supporter engagement
  • producing press releases for traditional media – papers, TV, radio
  • Achieving specific objectives and ensuring content is appropriate to BGA guidelines

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Analytical and multitasking skills
  • Communication of the Team brand identity in a positive, authentic way
  • Familiarity with all aspects of competitive gliding and with the ethos of the team

This post reflects the need for a highly motivated creative individual with proven social media experience, and a passion for connecting with current and future supporters to broaden the scope of the British Gliding Team’s profile. During the competition, it will be their responsibility to generate, publish and share engaging content daily and update progress on tasks throughout the day.
